Qibao Town Center
Shanghai, China
Vanke Qibao, an urban mixed-use project in the southwestern part of Shanghai, contains a shopping mall, a department store, urban housing and office space for small businesses. The site is near an historical canal town dating from the Ming Dynasty, which retains a modern and vivid street life centuries later. By the end of 2007, a new city subway line along the north of the site will open, with a new subway station connection at both the sidewalk level and underground.
Vanke Qibao is intended to take advantage of the adjacent historic and commercial districts, establishing a connection between the two. EE&K has designed a town center that would generate density through the flow of street and foot traffic and the progression of programmed space, creating a dynamic urban experience.
